History

Backstory

Two minds have never been so intertwined by destiny or otherwise as those of Straego and Ari. They each were born of the society of the Dust Runners and Timochen respectively, from which the two were stolen from their beds by mysterious, black-clad men at very young ages. The two were the subjects of many years of experimentation. It left them with the ability to speak within one another's head, to combine their intellect, and to speak over quite long distances without more than a glance; a power they are cautiously referring to as telepathy. During their teen years, the two realized that between them, their power for planning and problem-solving was much more than just two people, connected; their two brains created something greater than the sum of their parts. More sinisterly, they realized that there was more to the world than this awful captivity. More than just being poked and prodded by a mysterious group of people who referred to themselves as scientists. That there was more than the blackness and pain of needles and reactions to the materials with which they were injected. So, the two planned their escape. With enhanced focus, they memorized the patrols of whatever security it was that the facility contracted. They worked together, and ran. Outside, they heard tell of a place called Beacon, their land of milk and honey. They fled the facility, and come to Beacon not for revenge, not to answer the question of who it was, they don't care about that. They want only independence, and safety for the remainder of their lives. Ari was the brains of the two, their mind created and manipulated to hold any and all information they would come across. This led to a very logical mindset that often made emotions difficult for them. Every decision was calculated and planned meticulously. The inability to factor in emotions often leads them to make decisions that hurt those around them far more than they realize.

Epilogue

After the events of the game, Straego and Ari joined those who had made it to the Station. There, they acted as the heads of the medical department of Vartok Medical. Among their first ventures was destroying all evidence and research done on and for Project UPLINK, the research project led by Doctor Lachlan which led to their creation. But not before Ari had memorized every bit of it. On the Station, they continued the science done by the scientist originally assigned to Project UPLINK, researching the effects of controlled radiation exposure, genetics, robotics, prosthetics, and other sound medical science. When the opportunity came, Straego and Ari split off from Vartok, and continued their research more independently. Ari now had Lachlan's consciousness locked away in their mind, but all of his knowledge was at their disposal. Part of this changed their thought process to become increasingly similar to the scientist, and secretly they continued his research to create the perfect being, though not in as cruel a way as the man himself had done.
