"The Wise Man Cometh"

May 15, 2016 to May 17, 2016

Facebook Event

Summary:

Emperor Chimalli IX has declared the residents of Beacon Demons of In'Kol'Kan. He has been seen marching at the forefront of his throngs of Braves with a righteous fervor. Those following are of one mind: exterminate the vile beings that nest in that wretched town. The first step in this extermination has already ended in glorious victory as Emperor Chimalli IX's trusted advisor and confidant, known far and wide as The Wise Man, brought forth a terrible Curse upon the Demons that will see them wither and crumble. Soon scores of Servants of In'Kol'Kan will pass from this trial at the boot of the Empire only to be met by the unforgiving judgement of the Gods.

Well, only being on site 8 hours my experience was limited. However:

Alex Brunes Orc throwing a grenade and it landing inside the shirt of one of the other Orcs.

Aldebrandi shield wall!

Zorah and the compass.

Without a doubt, Crash's death was the best scene for me all weekend -- just the right level of poignancy without tipping over into too much melodrama.

+1 on Crash's death. Beautifully handled all round.

Zorrah hauling the Wise Man's body out of the Facility and throwing it at the Emperor's feet. Knowing exactly how high a price he had paid for that moment, and that it was absolutely worth it.

Also, nobody does super-polite-yet-super-creepy better than Caroline. (As her Zuberi captain, this time.)

Following the Emperor through town, yelling at him all the way.

Finding the picture of "Jojo" and "Skwert" on the trading post message board. Got an audible gasp out of me (as those who were there could tell you). Totally unexpected, totally mysterious, and totally adorable.

The warping cure trip BGA. Also, curing people's warping.

Also: the rapidity with which "Frank" became a swearword.

"Kiddo" "Pops"

All of Borisfest. Thank you staff for being flexible with that. I'm sure you had a lot planned that we may have had pushed back, but you gave us a space to work through that.

Roosevelt. twists knife

Shield Wall for ORC battle. Kudos to PCs for holding the line. Awesome job.

Harry and Ingrid. I love the droids almost as much as Manny - ALMOST.

"Stupid! Ha!"

Czez and Nicolo.

Where to begin?

The simulation mod. 110% COMPLETION BABY! HIGH SCORE FOR LYFE!!!! But no seriously, that was the best mod I've ever been on. Thank you so much Henry and Simon.

All the blood transfusions. Trying to coordinate donations of blood and then having Manny show up with ALL THE MRES. It was literally the happiest moment ever.

Baldasarre as "Inspire Cattle". This could be a thing. We should look into it more haha.

Russian Roulette with Nerve Dust Sausage. Is it Russian Roulette though if all the chambers are loaded? Regardless, STAGE 2 BARBITURATE ADDICTION! No Nerve Dust for me for AWHILE lol.

Everyone, everything, all the mods... Game was incredible as always. Thanks so much everyone!

All the moments with Zorrah and the Wise Man. Overwhelming feels. The rad suit people!!!! They were so cool!!!! Talking to lizard people with chalk drawings.

Farrett May '15

Talking to Lizard People Being better than real life in the simulator while feeling like a badass crime boss and making Riot wet himself. Talking down dusters who were being stupid and doing dumb things.

The disturbing, beautiful, terrifying prop of Johnny B's head in a jar.
    Lizards and cupcakes!
More appropriate reactions to things like mutation, skull trophies, and corpse vine from NPCs. It always sat a little weird with me when strangers treated all of these things like everyday, unsurprising occurrences.
Warden Frank Chalmers, the Wise Man. The terror in facing someone we had nothing on was something new, and just the right amount of controlled helplessness. Seeing his reaction to Valentine jabbing him with his own curse was pretty awesome.
Radiation suit people west of the city. Trying and failing to gently ease them into the harsh realities of life east of the city.
ORC Rebels. Muh. Fuggin. ORC. Rebels. The dissonance between the two cultures was incredible to be part of.

One word: COCOONS

Oh an Zorrah's goodbye to Natasha. It was so unexpected because she had no idea what he had really sacrificed. She had just finished a successful surgery, and had seen her friends and comrades take down the Evil Wizard Frank, and suddenly Zorrah is there saying goodbye. In that moment my sadness and confusion were so real and tangible. It was wonderful. Then to get on that same ship as him and know that we were somehow going to two very different places.

I also loved breakfast Sunday morning with the other early risers, getting filled in on the night before, laughing and having some of the weirdest conversations ever...

Long post is long. I love LARP.

Oh wow, also two of the most important things: - Caroline's head of security. Dat RP. Dat costume. Dat somewhat faustian air that made me cling to my soul. - GETTING PAID FOR HEALING. Seriously, having played a healer in other games before, this was such a big deal to experience. Meeting people who do that was such a nice experience, I can't even begin to say how much it meant.

VoodooSpecterGribbit May '15

That reminds me, I owe Yuriy for healing my rad sickness. I owe him for a lot of things at present.

My favorites:

Patli and Dave (whose character name I can't even pronounce) following the Emperor ALL the way across the camp, passionately begging him to stop his course of action and listen to them. WOW, that RP.
Overhearing Jerec and Faustine comparing notes on the letters they got and hearing Faustine go "Wow, Dahlia. Wow."
Valentine's quiet and unassuming way of FINDING OUT EVERY SECRET.
Guiseppe: "No getting frisky in the clean room." Eliza: "That's horrible. We're cousins!" laughter erupts
Yo dawg. I heard u like LARP. Dat mod. So much <3.
    Reactions to Kommisar secretpants
Natasha's reaction to Keza's offer to give her a private gun lesson. "Well, I never had an interest... until now." wink
RIP Boris, you will be missed
Zorrah. You know what you did. So hard not to cry watching that scene play out.
