Event 15

"No Escape"

August 28, 2015 to August 30, 2015

Facebook Event

Summary:

Rumors swirl about an electrified perimeter being set up surrounding Beacon. The ultimate purpose behind the project remains unclear but the culprit appears to be the corporation known as Slane Defense Systems. Having not been known for their peaceful intentions it is obvious that if left unhindered this new initiative will lead to terrible things for those now calling Beacon their home.

Brits internal struggle to decide if Izzy has any of Brits real life skills, after Faustine shows her baby birds that she found that needed help. I ultimately decided Izzy didn't know crap about birds. confused

How Izzy and Valentine are able to communicate extremely well, The scene between the two of us in the facility when everyone was surrendering was really character defining for me. rage

Penny! Penny is my new favorite! Everything that came out of her mouth was solid gold. (Whats your real life name???) heart_eyes

Any time anyone handed me puzzle pieces. Eep! So happy! blush

Barnaby and Izzy being the first people of Beacon to geek out over lines from something in pop culture, IN GAME! "I have more medals than you." stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes

Brian Gould and his perfect carrot and stick. Heres a carrot, look we have movies, and space libraries. You want that right? See, I am so nice. Then comes out the stick, NOW GIVE US WHAT WE WANT OR YOU WILL NEVER GET IT. frowning

Postman post battle circle sit on the rock wall. We are an awesome foursome. sunglasses

Scary white suit ORC business lady telling me I can get a compass schematic if I go get drinks with her. Izzy doesn't understand future flirting! Sure, a drink is harmless. I am totally doing it. (Ignorant bliss... la dee da, whee a compass! Nothing bad will happen.) flushed

The tenseness in general of ORC people always being around and making it impossible to plan. sob

And my absolute favorite moment of the game was the Ripley scene. Everyone was perfect. Dave B was about 5 more seconds of yelling at me away from me for real crying, Laura S was soooo threatening! Brit was just pulling at all of my nurtering/big sister heartstrings, and I was so helpless. I have not felt real fear like that in a Larp in years. Everything about that scene was perfection. I can't even. I was shaking for a while afterwards in impotent rage. cold_sweat

And a few RP nods to my fellow players who I shot the shit with in character for a while: Chris D, Athena P, and Ryan B.

This was my favorite game of Second Dawn yet.

IzzyBrit Aug '15

And of course Dave likes that he had me in a cold sweat.

Him: "By the way, your BS is really bad."

Cue, Izzy being the most flustered ever in her life... "Yeah... well, you have stupid... uh... hair!"

Good comeback there, Izzy.

ESarousi Aug '15 1

I'll remember more as I unwind but...

Sunday, the Tekalli-Aldebraandi wedding and the epic SHUT THE BOX game.

IzzyBrit Aug '15

Who got married???

veekoJohnny 'Riot' ScutusJohnny "Riot" Scutus Aug '15

Drones! From Betty and Frankie getting away (thank you Patli, Gribbit, Blanket, Vi, Tap, etc.), to stuck in the Mud Drones (thank you X and Val), to being Stryker's practice dummy for stabbing.

Captain Badass and the Spacehole, a Karst Production Smut film starring ORC Captain Sterling

"WE'RE STILL IN THE SIMULATION! WE'VE ALWAYS BEEN IN THE SIMULATION!"

Yuri. Thank you for being my Czez this game and bringing back Barnaby.

Legion developing very separate ideas and trying to mesh them.

SHUT THE BOX! Such a great add to game Atkoya!

Dezba and late night borisfest derpiness.

The potluck gang agreeing to terms.

Barns and Riot running a "Who's on First?" about forms with the ORC.

Horn Duel!

Special shoutout to Sai, Maka, and the Directorate gang - there are too many moments that will keep my hype train going until next game.

MeggersHNatasha Aug '15 1

A few off the top of my head: throwing Liam's ball and cup game after three seconds of not getting it. Thank you for accepting my apology.

Ivan's meltdown and the RP with him and others later, really intense moments.

Reading the disappointing smut novel and trying explain to Ann's drone why that wasn't a good example of sex.

Baby Desfautasha!

Finally getting what Natasha has wanted all this time, only to be completely without power to use it, trapped by the one thing she sacrificed to get it. The irony was palpable.

Simon's vartok npc, who reminded Natasha that Karst is beautiful and there is still much to learn.

The month wings. Truly Natasha's happiest moment.

IzzyBrit Aug '15

I missed the Smut book?

Noooooooo.

CoryDo you require assistance? Aug '15

I will respond more thoroughly tomorrow but I want you to know that I am very happy these threads have returned. They always made me so happy.

TalKeaton Aug '15

More after I get some sleep, but:

Rook calling PAUSE SIMULATION and having EVERYONE (both Staff and Players alike) freeze in place perfectly without any other direction was magical.

Watching an (very) unexpected NPC lie to an ORC's face, then flip off said ORC after she walked away.

PraseodymiumBaldassarre Giotto Aug '15

Favorite moment ever: Tavia: You have to sharpen sticks in the forest so we can rise up against the power armored death-orcs! That was one of the first times Baldassarre has actively called someone on their bullshit because that plan was even more stupid than the 85% casualty plan which was obvious and complete bullshit.

HORN OFF!!! I have never had a more worthy opponent in any duel in my life.

Murder Moths. All of that was a blast, too bad we weren't able to get more poison out of it. "Dominate by poison let me out! Dominate by poison stop hurting me! Dominate stop by poison hurting meeee! Dominate by poison let me out!"

Talking with Barnaby and wondering casually out loud whether we were still in a simulation, and how immediately after that he began to question his reality. #inceptionplot. Supply lines is a fantastic game.

All of my interactions with the Tekali, they are all such excellent fun and good-natured. Shut the box is fantastic, too.

Talking about Tancredo with Izzy

Faction-team knife fight!!!

Betty and Frankie and the Great Drone Escape! I also lumped my interactions with Stryker into a general plotline of Baldassarre becoming aware of the plight of Drones in an occupied beacon. He's concerned to say the least.

Hiding things everywhere. I had 5 stashes at one point in various places throughout the campground, only two of which were discovered, both by other players.

Talking with Blanket about his anger at Ortega's death. Crazy eyes were involved.

JD's character eating a lizardman alive. I knew it was going to happen from the second I saw the lizardman, and I was still horrified. I went up against him for a few seconds when he was raging on us and was pleased that he didn't dice me before we could get him sedated (DREAM LILLY is back on top as the best item I have on me)

Vienne jingling in protest after they bound her mouth, and all her prayers and songs, there was some impressive dedication and preparation involved in that!

AlryethAl Westwood Aug '15

Feeding deep fried radioactive rats to the glow moths, waylaying a spider, almost driving off with the truck full of prisoners. Witnessing the Horn off! Knife fighting! Borris-fest

kaisMagpie Aug '15

Nature walks with a vartok representative, gor the lizard perosn. All of Friday night.

DREAM GROVE...HOLY SHIT

And then Gardener reinforcing I wasn't tripping balls

recovering_murderb0tAnne Aug '15

All of Friday night was awesome and immersive. Best moment was probably army crawling up the back of the hill and not revealing myself to the three shadowy figures who turned out to be ORCs sharing a cigarette.

Making sure Frankie got away from Capt. James.

Meeting a recently dominated Cliffdweller on the bridge in the middle of the night (after Moth Fight), having a chat and feeding him space food.

veekoJohnny 'Riot' ScutusJohnny "Riot" Scutus Aug '15

Forgot to add Vienne's PROTEST SONG!

Does anyone know where it comes from? Is it an IG song or an OOG song (sounds like an Irish protest song from the cadence of it)

TalKeaton Aug '15

Oh, another one:

Sitting at the table near the cabins, talking to the Directorate about the Codex books when Faustine comes over: "Hey, just wanted to let you all know... it's now after 5AM."

stunned silence

"...Oh. Huh."

VoodooSpecterGribbit Aug '15

Everything to do with sneaky resistance plot! I liked building guns and concealing shivs and distributing journals and and helping refugees stay hidden. I loved that some players are collaborating and some are playing both sides to various degrees and some are outright looking for the earliest chance to stage a revolt. The tension! You can cut it with a knife! And I think thanks to Dee it's about to explode. I can't wait to see how that plays out.

The werewolf fight was awesome! What a rush!

I loved the simulation, and I wish we could have played it a few more times to practice. But I"m the kind of guy who plays Cotton Eye Joe on Step Mania 16 times in a row to get one move right. So. I want a lot of things my college roommates wouldn't let me have, and probably neither should you.

I said it before, but Patience = Professor Umbridge. Saccharine sweet figure of 100% non-representative authority with an evil temper and a twisted sense of justice. She may not look like a frog, but she fits that character archetype perfectly, and our schemes for how to deal with her all wound up sounding like something directly out of harry potter. I want weasley plot so bad. SO Bad. I forgot to write that in my report card. Please let everyone know that Barbalarb and Gribbit want weasley plot. Slash we're going to make it for ourselves, we're resourceful. You should totally have Patience start putting up ridiculous decrees in the tavern. I mean if you want us to revolt violently, you've got a perfect role model to draw from. Patience is already deliciously horrible. MOAR!!!!!!!!!

2 PLUs = 2x the fun. I really want to see if you guys can figure out a way for them to meet, I actually forgot that there wasn't more than one of cory. You need to come up with a face double for him. Or just a clone.

I found out that Gribbit is just a little bit of a coward. He admires Vienne for brazenly standing up to the ORC. He prefers to get his little victories stealthily. Which I'm getting better at, for your information small fry.

Also it was Coza and Altek who got married @Izzy

HORN OFF!!!!!! I want to get in on that next time

Directorate Superintendent's Special Education Read Aloud Program

Sausage fest as always. RIP Boris, from sausage we rise and to sausage we return.

I actually thought new Natasha is mostly the same as awesome as old natasha, but maybe that's because I always used to try her patience back when she had some.

Betty and the Drones!!!!!!! I wish I'd been there for more of that but I was trying to find someone to waylay the guard and it took forever.

The knife fight rocked, I want more of that. We apparently need regulations though about performance enhancers.

MeggersHNatasha Aug '15

It was disappointing in all the best ways. I will try to get another one next event and make sure Izzy get's to listen in.

AthenaZ Aug '15

The Shrine and everything that happened at it.

Being threatened with torture and death by ORCs if I didnt shut my damn mouth smile

Dreamgrove <3

All the feels punches, mostly delivered by Henry

The look on Faustine's face after Vienne returned from her 2nd tryst of the night = Priceless (as well as the trysts themselves)

Borisfest

Altec/ Vienne sibling banter

Vedere Underpants Flag plot: I have no clue who's idea that was, but thank you for letting Vienne take the rebellious hit for it.

car0murCaroline Aug '15

Oh man, I had such a blast this game. Seeing you guys all react to these major world happenings was absolutely amazing. My favorites:

All the clever angles on how this fight could be won without taking up arms: Giuseppe's politicking,The Directorate's pharmaceutical startup, and more.
Watching the wheels turn in the heads of Dezba, Coza, Sai, and a few others when they realized how useful the Zuber facility could be to their hopes & dreams
Secret girl talk on the swings, which Dezba TOLD IMMEDIATELY!
People actually using the codexes, oh my god thank you. You have no idea how many hours I spent making all those.
"So you understand how I might find it concerning that you want me to help you build a robot army..."
The credit shuffle. Everyone getting excited about gaining credits.
Patience Manning. The most condescending piece of shit corporate shill I have ever played and you haven't even scratched the surface. If you don't hate me already, you will. I can't wait to make you hate me even more.

VoodooSpecterGribbit Aug '15

I can't wait to hate Patience even more!!!!! I've never been so excited about hating someone!!!!!!!

I am conflicted about credits. On the one hand, there are corporations I'd like to deal with. On the other, I haven't heard a method of earning them yet that isn't abhorrent to me on a fundamental level. Your love of the corporation's credits has corrupted your reason, people.

I really really wanted to use the codex but was afraid to use them because the ORC got a hold of Blanket's. Once that happened we figured it was safer to just whisper messages to each other than write things down. Also I would have sent messages to the revolutionaries but hell if I know how to contact them.

car0murCaroline Aug '15 1

I will clarify the cryptography system in another post.

Edit: Here it is http://forums.seconddawnlarp.com/t/cryptography-you/1011

TalKeaton Aug '15

Loved the Codexes. I didn't end up writing in the actual code this game, but want to try to in the future. I meant to hang onto one OOG, and forgot, put them all in my bag.

TalKeaton Aug '15

I got a bunch of credits by gambling with ORCs on Sunday.

VoodooSpecterGribbit Aug '15

Gambling with ORC, that's a really, really clever idea.

PraseodymiumBaldassarre Giotto Aug '15

I have like 4 or 5 of them if you want one. I just put the tags in the bag.

IzzyBrit Aug '15

Thank you so much for letting me be involved in code plot without needing to know codes! Thank you thank you!

zorrahyeyi Aug '15

@veeko Vienne's protest song is a bastardization of the Irish rebel song "Go on Home British Soldiers"

wowy319Zack Oak Aug '15

Patience. Blanket immediately ID'ing who is the last person to fuck with and being as pleasant as possible to her (and approximately nobody else). The entire processing scene was terrifying, surreal, and all kinds of fun.
the Slane flag being replaced with underwear. Too perfect.
Interactions with all the different corporate NPCs! From guards of all manner of agreeable/disagreeable dispositions to representatives and directors of branches of the corporations, all of them were awesome.
Magical Zuberi Girl Tech-Director-Chan. With a gun covered in glitter, rainbow stickers, and so much adorability that I REALLY wanted to see what would happen when it fired. At someone else, mind you.
The tension and questioning of trust, right down to Blanket not being sure who he could trust with his plan to out-and-out murder Captain James by causing his power armor to crush him to death. Not really needed in the end, but still.
    DROOOOOOONES.
All of Blanket's surgery patients surviving with zero complications, and no friendly casualties.
The impromptu last rites for Miles Caplan, Hero of Beacon.

wowy319Zack Oak Sep '15

Non-abhorrent credit earning can usually be done with Arkway. They're the embodiment of "not as big of a jerk as you could have been."

Rowan Sep '15

Dream Grove. The talk with Dominus (who I'd been dying to see all weekend) is in my top 5 larp moments of all times. You nailed every emotion, and conflict Rowan was feeling.
Getting to hear Roosevelt's voice, just one more time.
The realization Friday night that some fights can't be won by brute force and knowing laying down arms to ORC was condemning her legion brothers to prison.
Lt. William Fitzgerald and the whole fubar {redacted} plot with Partlow. "Will - What the fuck are you doing Rowan? Rowan - " I DON'T KNOW!"
Private chats with Dezba, Altec, G-bear, Gribbit.... all so awesome.
    Googly eyed monster.
Realizing James was just a soldier doing his job, and feeling like O.R.C. is like legion, but on the other side.
    James holding a baby.
Meeting Gore then later learning he eats people but likes to cook vegetables.
Being yelled at by Sgt. Locke. Oh my god. I almost called the whole attack off.
    Instantly hating Patience.
Secret meeting with Tava and Ortega and feeling very inspired by their speech.
Walking Ortega into town.... seeing the situation, and knowing instantly what was going to happen. Then deciding the sacrifice was necessary for the cause. Then feeling utterly defeated when the reaction was not what Rowan expected.
Every situation that was clearly shades of grey. Most complicated, taxing, mentally draining event ever.
James getting shot, and feeling real guilt, sadness for an enemy, and dread at being truly fucked now.
