Tekali

Description:

I rose this morning to the Song of the Sun. We all gathered for morning prayer, afterwards I went to my shop for breakfast and opened for customers. When the sun reached its zenith I ate lunch with the Smith and his two apprentices after we prayed together. In the afternoon I sold much of the metal my brothers had found over the past few days. We will eat well with the profits at least for a while. I was even able to keep a few thin pieces to make adornments with. I have some ideas for designs to wear during the next full moon. I will speak with my brothers at the evening meal tonight to see what they have found today and plan what we will need for the shop tomorrow. It is a good day; I am sure my excitement will keep me awake long after the evening prayers.

The Tekalli believe that this world is an afterlife they have been sent to for violating the wishes of their gods. They spend their lives devoted to following religious edicts which culminate in glorious death to redeem themselves and ascend to the heavens.

To build their grand cities of cut stone, the Tekalli have tamed the swamps and jungles of Karst. Their lands are divided into citystates. Each state has their own variations on imperial law, but they all answer to the Emperor and his council of advisers.

Much of Tekalli society is based on an ancient warrior tradition; Focused more on skill of arms than bloodshed capturing prisoners, counting coup, and demonstrating great martial skill are all ways to gain honor. Killing defenseless opponents or maiming them so they cannot fight any more is seen as disgraceful.

The only thing stronger than Tekalli soldiers is their faith and belief that a pious life will break the cycle of rebirth and allow them to live forever among the gods. The Tekalli consider the color blue to be holy, and often carry blue items for good luck.
