Temochen
Description:
Quiet Whistler woke us just before dawn with a song. I still do not know what wakes him, but he is always the first awake, and always has a fire started when I crawl from my bedroll. I am glad he has woken us early. Game has been scarce lately and the hunting parties will have to travel far today. I will make sure our riding gear is checked properly , we don't need anyone else falling from the saddle at a full gallop the way Foxrun did yesterday. We have all been careless of late; hunger is eating away at the tribe. The hunters will eat the most this morning, as we need our strength if the tribe is to survive. Quiet Whistler is telling the others we will not be back for the midday meal. There will be none of the usual wood carving, boneworking, or any other relaxation for the hunters. To find game, we must travel through the heat to reach our furthest hunting grounds. If we do not bring meat for the tribes’ dinner fire tonight, we may have to journey to the grounds of Beacon and trade with the machineusers there. They do not trade food cheaply to us, and it would cost the tribe greatly.
The Timochen (“Children of the Winds”) are a nomadic culture trying to strike a balance with the natural world. Most are inherently distrustful of technology of any sort, believing it to be directly related to the Collapse. They have broken up into four large groups, called Winds, based on the direction they traveled in after the Collapse, and each Wind holds a particular trait in higher regard than others: North (Cunning), South (Strength), East (Wisdom), and West (Honor).
Within each Wind are a great number of smaller clans with varying adherence to their tribal values. The Timochen spend their lives on the move, so they do not waste resources. They are deeply spiritual and believe all natural things have a spirit within. They are dedicated to their communities, expert archers, and are vastly knowledgeable about the land.
This does not mean they are without a sense of humor; on the contrary, there is nothing a Timochen likes more than to sing, dance, and drink the night away after a long day on the trail.
The Timochen's distrust of technology includes electronics, firearms, and things with moving parts. There are some members of the East Wind who advocate technology use, but the other tribes remain skeptical.
